Oxygen makes the normal Spacemen and Spacewomen live a little bit longer. Since the space station isn't working in normal parameters anymore, there can be areas without any oxygen. It's very important and without it, the spacemen will slowly suffocate and die. Unless you are the monster. Then, you can stay outside all you want! You might even take the engineer perk and weld doors so spacemen can't get back in!
